Rufus is a free, open-source software tool for creating bootable operating systems, such as Linux distributions and various versions of Windows, directly from the USB flash drive. According to its creator, Rufus is faster than other similar software.

How to create a bootable USB flash drive with Rufus

  1. First, you need to get the OS as anISO file, for Linux distros you can download the ISO from the official website.
  2. Connect a flash drive to the PC that is at least 4 GB in size.
  3. Run Rufus, then make sure that the device name is the desired one otherwise change, after that click on SELECTto choose the ISO file.
  4. It is recommended to leave the other options with their default values.
  5. Start the process by clicking theSTART button.
  6. After the process is done, restart the PC then enter the Boot Menu by clicking F12 (this can be different depending on the type of your PC) finally choose the flash-drive to boot from.
